The OHL Trans-Nigeria Mining, Minerals & Metallurgy Project is one of the seven anchor projects under the MDG Project Nigeria initiative. This project addresses Nigeria's mining, minerals, and metallurgical needs through integrated steel production, non-ferrous metal smelting, and specialty materials manufacturing focused on ferrous metals, non-ferrous metals, and industrial minerals to support Nigeria's mining and metallurgical ecosystem and value chain development.
The Three Operational Phases
Phase 1 – Ferrous Metal
OHL Metalinvest Limited will manage an integrated steel production facility focusing on Direct-Reduced Iron (DRI) production, induction furnace melting, ladle refining, continuous billet casting, and hot rolling operations to produce billets and reinforcing bars.
Phase 2 – Non-Ferrous Metal
OHL Metalinvest Limited will operate comprehensive smelting facilities for aluminium, alumina refining, lead, zinc, copper, tin, and ferronickel to process mineral concentrates into refined metals.
Phase 3 – Industrial Minerals
OHL Metalinvest Limited will manage specialty materials facilities including a polysilicon plant using the Siemens process for solar-grade silicon production, and a float glass plant producing architectural and automotive glass.
About OHL Metalinvest Limited
OHL Metalinvest Limited is a wholly owned operating subsidiary of GLWD Investment Company Limited, established to lead the development and management of the OHL Trans-Nigeria Mining, Minerals & Metallurgy Project. As the primary implementation company, OHL Metalinvest Limited oversees the entire value chain from mineral sourcing and ore processing to smelting, refining, and export of finished metal products across three major operational phases.
The company will manage an Integrated Steel Plant (Direct-Reduced Iron production, induction furnace melting, ladle refining, continuous billet casting, and hot rolling for billets and reinforcing bars), a comprehensive Non-Ferrous Smelting Complex (aluminium smelter, alumina refinery, lead smelter, zinc smelter, copper smelter, tin smelter, and ferronickel smelter), and a Specialty Materials Manufacturing Complex (polysilicon plant for solar-grade silicon production and float glass plant for architectural and automotive glass). Through backward integration, OHL Metalinvest Limited also plans to develop iron ore mining operations and other mineral extraction activities to ensure supply chain security and cost-effective operations.
